I had heated flooring installed in my living room today. It's so warm I could cry. It's more comfortable too. Now that my legs aren't being constrained by two layers of down and a wool skirt, I can move about freely! Five and a half years after moving, I now know the awesome power of heated floors. Yesterday I bought lord knows how many heavy art and photo collection books at the bookstore. Today I'm going to read them. It's a personal rule of mine that whenever I see a book I think I'll like at the bookstore, I buy it at that particular bookstore. Buying it later on Amazon is against the rule. You know, I never really noticed before, but it's true. Azuma does very little solid-fill for shading or coloring. It's mostly cross-hatching.

There are very few manga series that do any sort of hard-fill that I know of.
But isn't that what Azuma should be using his assistants for?

I think he has his assistants do backgrounds and scenery. I remember when he had the job opening a while back, he talked about wanting someone who was good at drawing household items like remote controls, phones, and things.

instead of crosshatching, he should use zip-a-tone like the majority of other Japanese artists.

Sounds like Azuma, Masumi, and company had an awesome night out the other day. There are more tweets between the various other people involved, but I gave up on translating all of them.

At the bottom Azuma is talking about having an endoscopy. There's a phrase in there, 痛くもない腹を探られました which my dictionary says means "To be wrongfully accused." It literally means having someone probe around in your stomach. I think Azuma is speaking literally in this case since he's talking about an endoscopy, but there may be some connection to the idiomatic meaning when he talks about it being like torture. Or maybe it was just really painful.

This bear is a GUND Terrence bear. As a limited run model, it cost around 50,000 yen, so it's an expensive bear. At the time it came out, I was looking all over for a bear that fit my mental image, and I found it at the Nasu Teddy Bear Museum. I think it would be hard to get your hands on one at this point. You can see where a line should go. Your hands don't always cooperate. I've a multitude of beautiful ideas and designs in my head, but they're there forever because my hands are worthless piles of meat.

It bewilders me and has sent me into a deep depression, the fact that my hands cannot create what my mind sees.

I'm a little behind schedule on the preparations for volume 12 of Yotsuba&. After volume 11 came out, I missed three months in a row. I had originally planned to take a break after volume 10 came out. I thought, "If I take three months off, it'll be really refreshing, and I can catch up on a ton of work," but that wasn't how it turned out at all. The whole time I just felt like I was falling further behind. I'm going to pick up the pace!

I couldn't find an exact translation for the word he uses, but the closest match is "Water sprout." New shoots that a malnourished plant sends out rather than putting its energy into flowering or fruiting.
The term "water sprout" Seems specific to woody plants like trees and shrubs though.

It's in the omake. The point is that Umino accidentally picked the same pattern for one of her character's dresses as Yotsuba's dad has on his boxers. We get a nice clear view of Tou-chan. Yotsuba herself is obscured by text, but it's recognizably her.
