Ah, you beat me this time Sprocket.
It didn't help that I spent about a half hour trying to figure out the kangi on page 7 before realizing it was 飛.
I also couldn't for the life of me figure out how the なら fit into Yotsuba's line on page 8.

Did you catch the pun on page 6? You didn't mention it in your translation.
阿部三振だ (abe sanshin da, abe has struck out) sounds like 阿部さん死んだ (abe-san shinda, abe-san has died)

>Did you catch the pun on page 6?

I caught it, but in my rush to post before I had to go back to work, I didn't have time to mention it.

Now that I have another free moment or two, I can see I should've translated it as "And Abe goes down with three strikes!" and then have Yotsuba cry about someone beating Abe three times 'til he fell down.

Yt3: Mr. Abe...

Yt4: ...they hit him three times...

Yt: ...and now he's DEAD!

And if you like, a footnote to explain:
*"Abe sanshin da" = "Abe has three strikes" versus "Abe-san shinda" = "Mr. Abe's dead."

Yotsuba! If they let me catch cicadas ["semi" in Japanese], I'd be pro-class. In short, a semi-pro! Whoo!!!! Thank you for picking up Yotsuba & Higashinga, the latest in Laputa Empire's Higashinga series.
I love the atmosphere flowing throughout the Yotsuba &! manga. I'm glad it's become different from Azumanga Daioh in a good way. There's probably no link to the Wallaby-type Azumanga world. Jumbo's becoming my favorite character. He's funny and a great guy.
The three sisters leave a whole different impression than they did in TTT. I kinda liked the ponytailed-Sakaki-type Fuuka, though... (LOL) It's a work you just want to relax and watch. I still haven't decided what we're going to make next issue, but at some point, I'd like to draw a continuation of the Higashinga 7 college chapter. Please continue to support Laputa Empire. See yaaa.
P.S.: But man, Hanshin's some strong team, huh? Ah ha ha ha!

Ah! A Final Fantasy XI / Azu crossover piece. Excellent!

Sakaki-san is an Elvaan, Chiyo-chan is a Tarutaru, and Osaka appears to be a regular Hume. (What, no Mithra Kagura?)

The joke about the dagger/two-handed sword - in-game, weapons appear smaller when held by a Tarutaru than by an Elvaan (a Tarutaru is about knee-high to an Elvaan). So the joke here is that Chiyo's two-handed sword appears to be a dagger to Sakaki (even if that's not the way it really works in the game).

And, as the note says, an airship pass doesn't allow you to 'fly' like Chiyo's doing. It just lets you ride on an airship.

I couldn't figure that one out either, so I figured I'd let you handle it.
What is the ないと at the end of the first balloon supposed to indicate?

Also, 役得 is the first compound I've seen where, after I looked up its English meaning, I had to look up the English meaning in a dictionary. (perquisites/emoulments)
I also had no idea until you wrote "perqs" that "perks" was short for "perquisites" (or short for anything for that matter).

>I couldn't figure that one out either, so I >figured I'd let you handle it.

Uh...thanks?

>What is the ないと at the end of the first
>balloon supposed to indicate?

That's part of what puzzled me. Normally, I'd take to mean "if there isn't..." but with that なー at the end, it now reads to me like an abbreviated ないという事だな--"(the situation is that) there aren't..." I may be misinterpreting the implied missing words.

>Also, 役得 is the first compound I've seen
>where, after I looked up its English meaning, I

Granted, one usually doesn't see the whole word.

>I also had no idea until you wrote "perqs" that
>"perks" was short for "perquisites" (or short
>for anything for that matter).

Little did you realize this could be so English-educational! (I know I didn't.)

I recall seeing/hearing "perks" in use for several years before I learned it was short for "perquisites". That's part of why I spelled it as I did--and it seems to have conveyed exactly what I intended.

See if there's a local Japanese/Asian Culture Society or similar in your area. I've considered that, but my schedule doesn't allow me regular enough off time for it. I rely on occasional get-togethers with pen-pals, listening to Japanese shows with subtitles (English or Japanese) when I can, and conversing with a couple of local fellow Japanese learners now and then.
