169221 No.118841

So Amazon tells me that ADV's translation of volume six is scheduled to make impact tomorrow. I am literally foaming at the mouth with anticipation. [Disclaimer: I am not actually foaming at the mouth.]

Hopefully they've done a better job on this one than they did with volume three. That shit was just sloppy.

I have Volumes 4 and 5 and I'd say both were noticeably better than what was done with Volume 3. It didn't help that ADV Manga itself was in dire straits around the time Volume 3 was released.

I didn't see any glaring problems with four and five either, but since I'm an asshole who just likes to complain I felt like bringing it up anyway. So sorry ADV, but I'm gonna hold volume three against you until the day I die.

Actually there were a couple of glaring errors in volumes 4 and 5, but the overall quality aside from that made up for it.
In Vol. 4 they mistranslated "わっかだ" (it's a ring" as "わかった" (understood).
In Vol. 5 one of Fuuka's word bubbles is left completely blank in the chapter where they go to the beach. There was one other more minor error in that volume as well, but I don't recall what it was.

Overall though I think they did a good job on 4 and 5, and I'll be getting 6 in the near future (once it shows up on ebay for around $7).

In the meantime, I wish the Japanese anon who uploads the newest chapters would hurry up and get to this month's already.

Well that would explain why I didn't catch that translation error; I can't read a word of Japanese. I was going to say I can't see how I'd missed the blank word balloon, but I'm going through it now and I still can't find it.

Looking through volume five it occurs to me that if I ever knew a girl named Fuuka I would inevitably point out that her name could be interpreted to mean "fart." And then call her that every time we met.

The blank word bubble is when they're on the train, and she starts inflating Yotsuba's swim ring for her. I'm too lazy to look up the page number.

Fuuka means 'fart'? In what language?

"Wind scent."

Ohhh..

Heh, if we're lucky we'll be seeing the volume in finnish bookstores in at least six months' time. Hopefully sooner than they launch the official finnish versions anyway.

Translated series description from the preview in the back of their last Azumanga book:
"Yotsuba's in town! She's a six-year-old green-haired little girl bursting with joy and energy, and she's about to turn the neighbourhood upside down with her prank-filled adventures! Neighbours beware!"

Is this awesome? [y/n]

I think the other mistake in Volume 5 was when Yanda prank-calls Yotsuba. In ADV's version, when the phone's ringing, Yotsuba says "Dad's making dinner. I have to get it," then picks up the phone. The problem is that the word balloon was actually pointing off-panel to Yanda, so it was him speaking, not Yotsuba. It should have been something like "Your dad's making dinner. You'll have to get it." I think the fan translation caught that. Doesn't really make a big difference to me either way.

I have the English and Japanese volumes, and in the Fireworks chapter I noticed at one point that Yotsuba calls Miura 'Fuka', and at the end she says "Asagi! Fuka!" but that was in the Japanese version too, I think asking if they could see it, but in the English one Yotsuba is calling Ena those names in the same speech bubble... I only know like a quarter of Japanese writing anyway, so it may not be a mistake.

I don't think Yotsuba is calling Ena and Miura those names, I think she's asking her "Are Asagi and Fuuka watching too?" Ena replies "They are" but in the English version it reads "Asagi, Fuuka, are you watching too?" and Ena replies "we are."

Yeah, that, Yotsuba calling Miura Fuuka, and Asagi's "I'm am not!" all made me die a little inside when I read them.
