It is, of course, entirely incidental to her role as that characters dub voice being pretty-much the only reason people have even heard of her.

Given her interesting pronunciation of the word 'Asuka', I find the idea that she'd even heard of Evangelion before her 'performance', let alone been a fan of the series before she appeared in its localisation to be somewhat preposterous.
