That would be a good strategy were
a) ADVision's licenses exclusive across the whole world
b) Copyright a law of nature
c) Humans creatures with infinite attention spans.
Unfortunately, none of the above are true: if they dally too long, everyone will just import the Singapore release, download the fansubs/scanslations that were complete before ADV even put out the first volume, or just lose interest in the series altogether, in favour of something newer and cooler.
It's a great strategy if you're trying to hurt your competitors, but capitalism isn't a game. You don't win by making your competitors suffer, you win by making yourself prosper. By scrimping on the actual product ADV will only hurt themselves in the long-run. Entertainment is a luxury good: if the price and quality isn't right, people just don't buy it. You can't achieve lock-in with luxuries like you can with necessities like food, fuel, housing, telecommunications, etc., because all that happens is that rather than buy stuff from you because you're now the only game in town, people just don't buy: the overall market shrivels up.
Gordon, because ADVision's strategy is reminiscent of the episode of Kitchen Nightmares that he got sued - the one where the fridges were all overflowing with tubs of moldy green stuff and wasted rancid seafood.
