6163 No.121496

Suppose a Yotsuba anime came out of nowhere, who should be in it?

My nonseical ideas:

Yotsuba - Fumiko Orikasa
Mr. Koiwai - Daisuke Ono
Ena - Ai Nonaka
Fuuka - Yui Horie
Asagi - Saeko Chiba
Miura - Kana Ueda
Mr. Ayase - uncertain
Mrs. Ayase - Hitomi Nabatame
Torako - Satsuki Yukino
Jumbo - Rikiya Koyama
Yanda - Katsuyuki Konishi
Danbo - Norio Wakamoto

My inspiration failed me for mr. Ayase and whatever characters show up in newer volumes that haven't gotten here.

>> No.121510

That'd be a pretty cool idea, but you know that it's gonna be snaffled up and dubbed by ADV if that happens. And we'll probbably get Miss (or is it Mrs?) Vincent-Davis doing Fukka.

>> No.121511

>>121510

sigh

If I said it once, I've said it a thousand times:

If you don't like the dub, then for crying out loud, you don't have to listen to it.

Personally, I like the dub. But it's becoming readily obivous that I'm part of the mimiscule minority here.

>> No.121523

>>121511

I'm not saying that the Dub was Shit (In fact, I thought Osaka's southern Accent suited her character more than the traditional NY accent they seem to give Kansai people, and for that, my hat goes off to Vincent-Davis San)

But having said that, some of the Dubs I've seen are pretty Awful (Tenshi Muyo, anyone?)

What I would like is that they keep a similar vocal cast to Azumanga Daioh. Also, if people want to see how English dubbing should be done should be pointed in the direction of Hellsing.

IMHO, of course

>> No.121524

I noticed that smaller the cast, the more cautious they are treating the dubbing.

Yotsuba - dunno lol
Mr. Koiwai - Crispin Freeman
Jumbo - John Billingslea
Yanda - Johnny Yong Bosch
Fuuka - Kari Wahlgren
Ena - Melissa Fahn
Asagi - dunno

Luci Christian as Asagi has potential.

Yeah, that could work. As long as she keeps it in the sultry mistress kinda tone, rather than Excel Kobiyahsi/Poemy Wantanabe kinda tones.

doing that would be against the vc: law of Azuma

>Mr. Koiwai - Crispin Freeman

Glad someone liked my idea, or atleast thought he's be perfect for it too.

And Richard Epcar is always the voice for Jumbo in my head.

And other Ghost in the Shell Voice actors come to mind for the other voices, and Chris Sabat as Yanda, or Vic Mignogia or what ever his name is.

Brett Weaver would do a god Koiwai voice too, I think. Tiffany Grant would be awesome as Ena, just not a bitchy or smart mouth voice like she usually does.

Melissa Fahn, or Rebecca Forstadt would be my Yotsuba voices. Reba's Lynn Minmay in Robotech was cute and her Mihoshi is awesome. Maybe Cynthia Cranz, Chichi in Dragonball Z, as Fuuka? Her and Tiffany Grant have veeeeery similar vocal styles.

I couldn't care less who is in the Japanese version, as long as they have Yuuichi Nakamura as Koiwai, I'll be happy.

On the other hand, the joke in Japanese is that Osaka's character is completely at odds with her dialect; people who speak Osaka-ben are usually portrayed as brash loudmouths. The accent isn't SUPPOSED to reflect her character. I suppose it's not a joke that translates all that well anyway.

>> No.121552

>>121547
Consider the stereotypical loudmouth, braggart Texan. In cartoon character terms, sort of a cross between Yosemite Sam and Foghorn Leghorn (though Sam's been the pure bragging Texas type plenty on his own). In addition to this, Houston's residents are apparently stereotyped as loud, brash, and business-minded. Dub-Osaka's got a Houston drawl, but none of the brashness, thus the accent doesn't reflect her character.

>> No.121554

>>121552
The thing is though (and I feel I should have some authority on this matter considering that I was born and raised in Texas) that Osaka's accent is more of the lazy southern type rather than the brash loudmouth type. Although to be completely honest, I never did encounter any people with the latter personality during my years in the state. Come to think of it, I never really met anyone with an accent that noticeable (people are always shocked to hear I'm from Texas since I don't talk like TV cowboys). The thickest southern accents I've ever heard have always been on people from West Virginia.

>> No.121566

>>121554
Yeah, West Virginian accents do seem to be pretty thick. Might have something to do with the mountains. I've noticed that people in western North Carolina (my home state) have thicker accents than people farther east.

>> No.121576

>>121554
It does indeed sound like a softer Southern drawl than a harsher one, but as ADV originated in the Houston area and many of its VAs are local, I trust their judgment of the local accent, even if I've never had a chance to analyze it myself.

I hear 'em all up and down the scale of intensity, really. The strongest I ever encountered was a very twangy fellow from Lubbock, though there's some people I know from just outside Dallas who come close in intensity.

Rural/Suburban Texans seem to drawl more, in my experience, though that's obviously not entirely the case.

But yeah, I've never met anyone specifically matching the stereotype either. Probably haven't been around much since the Johnson administration. Closest I've seen in the media these days is...uh, Dubya Bush. Hm.

>> No.121583

>>121566

We don't have that much of a drawl... It's mostly the lack of proper grammar when speaking...

vc: sadly (Sadly, I don't have an appropriate picture.)

But you guys say "Fahr" instead of "Fire."
It sounds vaguely uneducated, but can also be really cute coming out of a girl.

>> No.121589

Well, that's fine for Osaka, since she's vague, and not getting much of an education.

I do think that culturally, Osaka should sound more like Brooklyn, but it's cuter to give her the "Houston" accent. I dunno, Houston's more like Fukuoka, maybe.

I seem to remember a conversation somewhere else about giving Ichimaru Gin (who also speaks in kansai-ben) a southern accent.

Screencap highly related.

What's up with the edit to Chiyo's sash thingy?

>> No.121610

My best guess from a quick google search is that it's intended to make her look more Korean.
The Korean equivalent of the Kimono, the Hanbok, is a similar ceremonial robe-like garment, although one notable difference is that it is worn without the large obi belt that always accompanies a kimono.

>> No.121612

Now I hate the Korean anilicensing industry too.

>> No.121625

Korea and Japan don't have a lot of reasons to like each other.

I'd wish AD would be one of them, though.
