Y'know, I've been wondering, are there (and how many) girls here on /azu/? The kind that has no problems with raising hands and saying "yep that'd be me"?

>> No.92612

Dude, this is the internets. All men are men, all women are men, and all children are FBI agents.

VC: yailfness. Oh, yeah, and furries are the foul blasphemic creatures of Leng.

'Dude, this is the internets. All men are men, all women are men, and all children are FBI agents.'

Cobblers. ;)

I don't subscribe to that way of thinking. But then, I'm Bolshie that way.

BTW, I wonder where our fair Irish colleen is? And whither Kriegsaffe, for that matter? (not that I'm incinerating he's a woman, perish the thought! But you never know; mayhaps he's gone to Thailand, Brazil or Cuba for gender-realignment surgery?!)

Unlikely there are many as Azumanga is an anime/manga with a male audience (Seinen).

Anon is female!

>>92617

Even though AzuDai ran in a seinen mag, I wouldn't say the fanbase is overwhelmingly male, at least not in my experience. Maybe the original Japanese fanbase was--I couldn't tell you--but word gets out.

I think the lines in English-speaking fandom are being blurred, or at least misunderstood, anyway. You wouldn't believe how many times I've had to try and convince someone that no, Negima is NOT shoujo. It's quite the vc: feat.

Actually, a lot of otaku-ettes I've talked to don't care much for AzuDai. I guess they think watching a bunch of high school girls is boring cause, well... they already ARE high school girls.

>> No.92654

>>92652
Now that's an interesting theme.. What do these girls like to watch?

>> No.92656

>>92654

Well I wouldn't want to watch a show with people doing ordinary things jsut cause I thought the female characters were cute.

>> No.92662

im a girl. and to anyone who says im not, fuck you. i dont have a fucking penis, you penis loving penis lovers.

>>92652
I think most high school girls dont like Azumanga simply for the lack of "bishie boys". You'd be hard pressed to find a teen girl whos into anime for a reason other than fantisizing about cute-boy-buttsecks. I dont mean to be cynical, but its true.

Azumanga/Yotsuba is superior. And anyone who cant see that really doesnt know how to appreciate the medium. god im turing into such and otaku(ette)

>> No.92672

>>92662

It's true that's a common reason for girls to like anime. Or maybe you could say they like it for other reasons, too, but they wouldn't be watching in the first place if there weren't cute boys. But change cute boys to cute girls and the same is probably true for males who watch anime. I've noticed that whereas you can have the fat and/or ugly dude character in anime, at least as a supporting character, no one dares make a female character like that. You can really see that principle at work in Genshiken, where none of the girls are fat (Kugayama) or bony (like Madarame) or just plain creepy-looking (like Kuchiki or the original club president). Instead they could all be considered cute at a minimum.

>> No.92677

>>92672
...Are you trying to say that people watch anime for the cute Boys/Girls?

>> No.92678

>>92672

Interesting point. I had actually never thought about that. Are most anime/manga artists men?

>> No.92683

>>92677

I'm saying that if the characters weren't cute 1.) much fewer people would watch and/or 2.) many people would never even give a show a try. Of course, this is true for live-action TV and movies too, not just anime.

Katsuya Terada (chara designer for Blood: The Last Vampire) said he liked making the nurse because women who look like her are almost non-existent as important characters in anime, even though plenty of women look like her in real life. I mean...a lot of teachers look like that, but again look at how Azumanga Daioh gives you the bony, creepy male teacher but the female teachers are cute.

Are there anime series where there's an unattractive girl (I don't mean thinks-she's-unattractive, I mean actually unattractive) who's a regular part of the cast? There must be some. I won't be a hypocrite and say I don't like all the cute girls in Azu but I do theorize that while you can get away with ugly dudes in anime, you can't ugly girls.

well while im sure there are alot of ugly people in japan in real life, from the japanese people i see that come here, they are almost always beautiful if not at least cute, the only thing shaky is the dental work, but they have good hair, clear skin and vibrant voices, it really makes me jelous of them. but in anycase, most of the time, a person is usualy ugly because of poor hygene, for me, if i dont practice good hygene its a night and day difference. id hope that the people in anime are doing their best to keep themselves looking good rather than just letting themselves go

>> No.92768

Dear me, perish the thought! We Otaku don't watch anime for the cute Bishoujo, but the intense & thought-provoking plots & in-depth characterisation. If you'll excuse me...

watches episode of "MGLNStrikerS" where 19-year old Fate transforms, revealing she wears black bra & pantsu

Wasn't there a similar thread re: girls on /azu/ fairly recently? There were less than a dozen replies from girls then, mostly anon. Anyway, another girl anon here.

Also (since I'm posting right underneath one), I used to imagine misha posts as coming from a girl for fun. Now, though, I can only imagine misha as Azuma's corrupted Ryo-Ohki character. It makes a frightening amount of sense.

Hm... I don't know so much about anime, but Katsuhiro Otomo's main female characters in his manga (Akira, Domu) break out of the cute/bombshell female molds (that's Akira's Chiyoko to your left). More underground/relatively obscure works will also naturally yield more realistic to downright creepy/freaky females, but ongoing series of that type (vs. one-shot stories) are nigh-impossible to find in English outside of scanlations.

I liked her nickname amongst The Empires goons. Oddly enough though, Chiyoko has a couple of Ecchi scenes: Topless bathing, then when Colonel Shikishima had to take off her shirt. "Alcohol! I need Alcohol to clean her wound . . . Erk . . ."
