I actually like the ADV manga version of this one better.

"Grandpa! Grandpa!!"
"Chiyo! Step away from the light!!"

I never understood that grandpa part. Did he molest her or something?

I just figured Yukari almost ran over an old man.

Why would you automatically jump to the conclusion that she was molested by her grandfather, anyway?

...Is...is there something you want to tell us?

It's okay, we won't judge you. Just remember, it wasn't your fault.

Nah, not me, but my big sis, maybe.
Anyway, what else am I'm supposed to think when I see a kid having a breakdown uttering "grampa! grampa!"? Maybe I watch too much Lifetime movies.

I can think of a few things I'd assume before landing on "molestation."

Like, maybe she saw her grandfather get hit by a car and it triggered a flashback, or maybe Yukari nearly hit her actual grandfather, or maybe she was just saying "grandpa" as a general term like a lot of people refer to older men as "gramps" or "pops."

Or maybe driving with Yukari was a near death experience and she was greeting her dead grandfather in the next life. Then they called her "away from the light" and back into the living world.

Not as great as molestation, I guess, but it makes more sense.

She meets her grandfather in the next life? So, that makes her a great-great-grandmother before she dies?

>>maybe she was just saying "grandpa" as a general term like a lot of people refer to older men as "gramps" or "pops."

That is exactly what she was saying. In Japanese it is very common to use "family member" pronouns when talking about people who aren't in someone's direct family.

For example, you might call a slightly older woman oneesan (big sister). A significantly older woman would be obasan (auntie)....

lol. In Russian "grandpa" is your real grandpa and any another old man. Same word in both cases.

  No.194034

I've always thought calling older men "grandpa" and such to be a bit condescending. I can relate since I don't plan on having kids, but maybe this man wanted to be a grandparent, but wasn't able to make it happen. That would depress the fuck out of me; being called "gramps" by some random dope and not by a loving family member you were not fortunate enough to have in your lifetime.

That's why I just say "old-fart", instead.

Yeah. Because he read wakachan.org and watch azumanga :awesome:

Yeah, it's much more of an affectionate term in Japanese though.
>>194030
That's why the joke can be translated 2 different ways. Either she's saying "Old man! An old man!" as in Yukari nearly hit an old man, or she's saying "Grandpa! Grandpa!" as in she's having a near death experience and seeing her Grandpa on the other side.

The poor guy was molested by his grandpa, do we have to be calling him a pedophile on top of it?

  No.194095

I WAS MOLESTED BY CHIYO! SHE TOOK MY INNOCENCE!

I thought she was nice at first, she was so cute, and sweet.

But it was all just a trick, so that she could take advantage of me. She... she said she wanted to meet me after school; I liked her, so I thought "Why not?".

When I got to the classroom, she didn't seem to be there, but when I got far enough away from the door, she came up behind me and pushed me on the ground.

I tried to struggle, but that just made her mad.
She said "OH NO YOU DON'T, YOU LITTLE MANSLUT, I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!".
She took off my underwear and... I can't go on, it's... IT'S TOO PAINFUL!!!

I haven't gone back to school in weeks, m-my mom thinks I'm staying with my uncle.
