I seem to have lost the ability to download files from 4chan.biz

Am I the only one getting error 403 from that site

  No.195239

I just downloaded a few files and had no problems (not that this helps you, I suppose).
I remember Koiwai.biz' domain being down (a placeholder page being there instead, I mean) but that appears to have been solved.

Haven't been there for a while, I never noticed the Read Yotsuba Online section had comments for each page now (also gives you an idea how many hits this site gets, wow).

I miss the Anglefire and Geocitities days.
They were less convenient, and hellishly organized, but it was more creative.

Ahh, the days of having to spend three hours on IRC buttering up an admin, only so you could get access to an unreliable ftp serving a few eps of 240x120, 10fps, mono, at 15megs each. If you were lucky you could score an ep a week. Remember the VIVO codec? God help you.

Kids these days have no idea what their parents had to put up with. For reference, the attached image is about twice the size.

Don't forget to brag about the nowadays attitude 'if it's not HD it's not worth watching'

  No.195299

I never understood that line of thinking. I'm still phased from the VHS to DVD conversion.
I don't see Blu-ray sticking around longer than 5 years from now, anyway.

Blu-ray is still better than on-demand and broadcast HD.
I haven't used my VCR in years, except to watch some slightly obscure Japanese films I rented at the local independent video hut before they went out of business (Kikujirou, Tanpopo, the original Shall We Dance).

People these days don't really understand the meaning of SDTV (and less) vs HD because they didn't have to deal with it.

Still enjoy putting on End of Eva using VIVO vs RM vs mpeg1 vs mpeg2 vs mpeg4 on my 60" plasma (VIVO and RM played off a win95 desktop over RCA). After people stop vomiting most go out and buy a better tv and blue ray player.

I know that there was a story on Slashdot a couple of days ago about AT&T blocking one of the 4chan servers. I wonder if they're at it again, or if any of the other ISPs have followed suit.

You can RTFA here:

Tanpopo?

  No.195357

>>195333
Tanpopo was an awesome movie. It's got a western style plot, but it's set in modern Japan.

A mysterious stranger rolls into town one day and meets this down on her luck ramen shop owner who's barely staying afloat. She lodges him for a while in exchange for him teaching her how to make a killer bowl of ramen. The villain of the story suggest Mr. Stranger mosey on along lest he bring some unfortunate "accidents" on miss ramen shop owner and her business. Of course the two of them ultimately have a showdown (but without the six-shooters).
Her ramen shop is called "Tanpopo."

There are also a number of subplots about other characters finding joy in food, which is the main overarching theme of the movie. It's really quite good. "Enjoy Everything" indeed.

That sounds boring as hell, but I might check it out.
I used to watch a lot of Japanese films on a whim. Have you seen the Guinea Pig film series?

  No.195378

Well it's certainly not action packed or anything. I can see how some people might find it boring. I enjoyed it though.

The Guinea Pig movies don't really appeal to me... Machine Girl on the other hand...

Tampopo is freaking awesome! The only downside to watching it is that it will make you hungry for a proper bowl of Ramen, which you will probably not be able to get!
