I have just read this guy's blog. Starting on December 22 of last year, this webcomic artist and gamer started watching Azumanga Daioh on Youtube. In the following eight months he had
seen the series and written many extensive and insightful blogs on the series that has captured him. It is a very interesting read. The link below is to where it all started:

pic related - it was the one that led me to his site via google :)

It certainly is an interesting read, but good god, it goes on for a lot longer than I thought.

I skimmed through the more recent posts (I'll read them later), but what I found remarkable was how much it sounded like I felt when I was discovering AD and slowly got more and more infatuated by it (even if I don't agree with him about everything) back in August '06.

Apparently, he's planning to write a book about Azumanga (good luck getting that done and published)

I dunno, I don't find this guy too impressive. The best cultural analysts say things about a work which you didn't think of for yourself, but when they're pointed out to you, you can say "hunh, yeah, that's kinda true, isn't it?" I haven't read a single sentence from this guy yet that passes both tests, but I read stuff like this: "I think [Kagura's would-be rivalry with Sakaki] is the show's way of saying that anime rivalries are pretty stupid, and best abandoned." Uh, or maybe it's just a funny moment which reflects the fact that Kagura is a competitive person and assumes Sakaki must be one too because Sakaki's been outcompeting her? One might as well say that Yomi's giving a can of bear meat to Sakaki that Sakaki is horrified by is "the show's way of saying that canned meats are pretty stupid, and best abandoned."

>I was apprehensive about it at first, because let’s face it, some of the oddness that comes with Anime can make even me cringe. A good barometer for your tolerance of Anime is dependent largely on if you can get through the opening.

He has no idea.

He also seems to think that anyone who has chosen to read him is volunteering to be abused for fairly normal choices. From a post that is ostensibly about the music in AzuDai:

"Not exactly the kind of stuff I’d boast as being on the iPod I don’t own because I’m not a gullible idiot soon parted from my money, but that’s more my problem than this music."

You know, I don't own an iPod either. But I'm not enough of an egotistical jerk to think that if someone who does own an iPod is curious what I have to say about AzuDai's music, he's also volunteering to hear me call him a gullible idiot for owning an iPod.

Goddamn, did an iPod steal his lunch money every day when he was a kid or something?

Also, I do own an iPod, and I have Azumanga's music on it. So suck on that, Mr. Blog Guy!

I have one of the iPhones, and have no less than three custom Azumanga rings.

I'm only using one right now, though.

Do you have "Poi Poi Peace"?

Not...as a ring tone...

I should fix that.

Oh, I think someone actually here did make a ringtone of Poi Poi Peace way, way, WAY back in the day here in /azu/, iirc. I think that person even uploaded, too, but not having a cell at the time I didn't d/l it.
Hopefully, someone here remembers they have it, or you could probably search the achieve to see if the link (if there is one) still works.

I don't have it but I second the motion - does anyone have it.

I posted this link, even though I knew some of us (myself included) wouldn't agree with parts of it, because I found it interesting that Azu would take over his otherwise unrelated blog in such an overwhelming fashion. Large parts of the postings are about the author and not the subject, but that's what blogs are about, I guess.
