Yuki Matsuoka looks oddly sophisticated in her black turtleneck. I think she's attractive, but it also makes you think about how Japanese and American voice actors have this in common--there's no job requirement that that they be good-looking. I mean, it always helps no matter what your job to be good-looking, but I've seen American VAs with squealing posses who wouldn't have given them a second glance if they were just ordinary fans attending a con.

See, there's a lot of paraelles between the two; low pay, part time, etc.
Not knowing much history of how it's been done in Japan, but just in the past 8-10 years or so I just notice a few voice actors get more prolific or at least exposure.
They try to do that with the American actors, but they don't show up in major commercials (unless they've been doing that for years prior) that isn't promoting a convention. A few Japanese voice actors seem to really bank on that while others still struggle.

That's just what I see. I'm sure there are older fans here who might know more about that.

I'm not 206230, but I have to agree. ADV releases may be legit, but they're not exactly the original. Having your ADV DVD signed is like having a reprint of a book signed. There's nothing wrong with it I suppose, but there's nothing right with it either.

I wouldn't have any problems with asking her to sign the official translated manga by either ADV or Yen Press (I'd probably pick ADV book 3 that features Sakaki on the front cover), or maybe this character CD (if I actually owned it).

Honestly, I wouldn't know what would be awkward about that, I mean the Osaka Banpaku 10th Anniversary book devotes 5 pages to show examples of AD being translated into French, English, German, Korean and 6 other languages, why would she or anyone else look down on local translations?

(only thing I'd feel embarrassed about is the idea that she might think I was asking this for my kids, instead of myself. :( Oh well, it's not like I live anywhere near LA anyway.)

A lot of the older American cartoons going way back were voiced with more than one actor in the studio, much as a radio show was done. I suspect when multi-track tape became available, some outfits started doing recording with just individual actors (it is easier to schedule sessions that way).
