Well it is, however what sets it apart is that I'm expecting it there to be a major plot twist or genre shift into grimdark war drama. I believe the slice of life moe section is just to get us to like the characters, so when they die it makes us even more sad especially since we knew before the upcoming war.

I really like the show's setting, a WW2 era Europe-Japan hybrid society in a world ravaged by conventional warfare.
