I wasn't trying to sound defensive, I was just trying to explain why I strayed further than ordinary from the literal meaning.
I agree that "went out with" has the implication of a date, which is something I attempted to utilize to humorous effect (I think it's much funnier for Koiwai to say "I went out with Asagi" than to say "I hung out with Asagi" and have Jumbo react the way he does).
But it also lacks such a strict connotation since in the same context he could have said "I went out with Yanda" and it wouldn't have been interpreted as a date.

all this drama over a suggestion that torako and asagi might be together. And barely anything comes out of other much unlikelier pairing threads. good job, guys.
