Look at the love in Asagi's eyes as she smiles back at the photographer (Torako). And with Torako and Asagi acting all maternal on Yotsuba, it's like a tiny little lesbian family.

  No.206134   Report

>>206133

Wow, you got some good eyes on you. Asagi does have that love look in her eyes.

Now to speculate if that was intentional on Azuma's part, or non-thinking...

  No.206135   Report

Or Asagi has that love light in her eyes because she's an egotist and loves having her picture taken.

Isn't that the same look Ena had when her mom asked if she wanted to go with Asagi and Tora to see the balloons?

  No.206137   Report

Well, it's obvious now - Ena's gay for balloons.

Anyone else have the thought process of

>She's a female, for her to be gay for balloons balloons have to be female as well...
>Well, they don't have penises so what else could they be?

What? Kowai x Jumbo? I am more than certain it is.

  No.206144   Report

>>206135
I kind of tend to agree with this. Not that there's nothing going on between her and Tora, just that that look isn't really maternal when you look at it (does your mom look like that around you?) and more like "a pose with a cute kid" look.

>>206142
>>206136
I always thought of this smile as Ena's now I have an excuse to tag along on Asagi's date and she can't say a damn thing about it since she doesn't want mom to know she's gay smile. Which is a pretty impressive statement for an expression but I think comes across well none the less

You guys are reading WAaaaaaay too in to this

Although I do believe there's something going on between Torako and Asagi

  No.206162   Report

Frankly, I think nothing of the sort is going on between Torako and Asagi. It's really difficult for me to imagine Azuma purposely writing their relationship as rife with lesbianism.

After all, he denied that any of the Azu girls are lesbians.

...unless this is one of those cases of authorial interference.

  No.206163   Report

>>206162
Trust the art, not the artist. (Although Torako describing Asagi as just "my friend from college" in the "story so far" sidebar seems to downplay the idea of their canon relationship being anything more.)

When I first saw the page in >>206131 untranslated, the first two panels suggested that maybe AsagixKoiwai was being hinted at (he appeared to be thinking "Look how good she is with Yotsuba -- she'd be great as her mom"), so I was relieved to find out what he was actually saying.

  No.206164   Report

Wow, guys, chill out. This is a case of reader interpretation. Why does it matter what Azuma intends or anybody else thinks? If it looks like that to you, it looks like that to you.

The original line in Japanese says something like:

If Jumbo knew I was out playing with Asagi, he'll be angry...

With a follow up.

"We went out to play with Asagi"

Not quite a "Went out on a date" connotation... there are better words in Japanese for that sort of strong implication...

  No.206166   Report

>>206165
I chose "went out with" because it was purposely vague (it doesn't necessarily connote a date), and it maintained Koiwai's intention of riling Jumbo up.

  No.206167   Report

>>206166

First off, thanks for the translation :).

I didn't mean to imply the translation wasn't correct or didn't capture the original idea, so I apologize if I cam off as critical.

"I went out with Asagi" definitely implies somewhat of a date (at least in American English), so I was just trying to remind people that the original translation didn't use such a strong connotation and that Asagi x Koiwai is not necessarily canon... although I've been seeing the two together a lot lately...

  No.206168   Report

>>206167
Some people think I'm argumentative. I've always viewed it as just attempting to defend/explain my viewpoint.

I wasn't trying to sound defensive, I was just trying to explain why I strayed further than ordinary from the literal meaning.
I agree that "went out with" has the implication of a date, which is something I attempted to utilize to humorous effect (I think it's much funnier for Koiwai to say "I went out with Asagi" than to say "I hung out with Asagi" and have Jumbo react the way he does).
But it also lacks such a strict connotation since in the same context he could have said "I went out with Yanda" and it wouldn't have been interpreted as a date.

  No.206169   Report

all this drama over a suggestion that torako and asagi might be together. And barely anything comes out of other much unlikelier pairing threads. good job, guys.

Since she basically is a young Mrs. Ayase.

  No.206182   Report

They have a father.

Also, I just noticed that the Ayase girls sort of get... saner down the line. Mentally steady, I mean, because Ena's kind of scary, but she is a really responsible girl. Is there some sort of learning curve there?

Ah, when did he do that?

  No.206193   Report

Asagi takes after her mother, while Fuuka is a lot like her father.

Ena is a mutant?

  No.206194   Report

>>206193

Ena takes after dad. Fuuka is the mutant middle child (who unfortunately did inherit mom's killer beast eyebrows.) And Mrs. Ayase does take excellent care of both her own family, and the surrogates living next door.

There's nothing wrong with any of the Ayase women. Except maybe that Asagi is the comic realization of the attractive, popular, engaging, humorous women who have spent their entire lives rejecting the neckbeard populace of /azu/.
