Yotsuba is 5, almost six, but she has never been to any formal schooling. From what I can gather, preschool in Japan is voluntary.

Starting at 18mths to 5years, however most parents want to give their kids a head start.

Is Koiwai a bad parent for not wanting to educate his child? Was Yotsuba rejected from the private preschools because she has green hair?

  No.206224   Report

Well, considering Yotsuba can read, and that kids are (last I checked) taught the alphabet starting from age six in American schools, I'd say she's pretty well educated. And Koiwai works at home, no need for daycare. He seems a pretty good parent to me.

Giving your kid a "head start" I think is detrimental, really. I mean c'mon, can't they at least have a chance to be babies/kids before being shoved in the hell of schools!?

Much of the home training is devoted to teaching manners, proper social behavior, and structured play, although verbal and number skills are also popular themes. Parents are strongly committed to early education and frequently enroll their children in preschools.

Preschools (yochien), predominantly staffed by young female junior college graduates, are supervised by the Ministry of Education, but are not part of the official education system. The 58 percent of preschools that are private accounted for 77 percent of all children enrolled. In addition to preschools, a well-developed system of government-supervised day-care centers (hoikuen), supervised by the Ministry of Labor, is an important provider of preschool education. Together, these two kinds of institutions enroll well over 90 percent of all preschoolage children prior to their entrance into the formal system at first grade.

So Yots is in the 10%.

You're saying that a green haired, strange acting, foreign looking girl, being raised by an adoptive, single, work from home father is in the minority?

  No.206229   Report

I think at this point in the comic, it's a more enjoyable read with her not going to school. I could see her first days of school being entertaining in the future, though.

But from a real-world perspective, I think almost all kids benefit from having more socialization with kids their own age early on.

My thoughts exactly. Once she starts school I just see the series just taking off on a different level. It might be interesting to see Yots adapt into school life, interacting with peers, teachers, activities, but then I'd really miss her mid-day adventures she already has going on with Koiwai.

Then again, she already interacts with the Ena and her sisters most of the time, so we'll see.

Koiwai doens't want Yotsuba to go to preschool because they teach evolution there and other satanic topics.

As soon as Yotsuba wants to go to school, here comes the friendship. Yes. Lots of new little girls with their smiling faces and tasteful fashion over gentle curves. You can't not want to see that. You can't. You'd be stupid. You're stupid.

Ena would make a great Chick tract villain. She's a godless liberal trying to lead poor Yotsuba astray.

Ah, good point. Not to mention that Torako smokes, which I'm sure is also unchristian somehow.

I still imagine Miura being more of a potentially bad influence on Yotsuba due to the smaller age gap though (although Yotsuba does seem to kind of look up to Asagi).

People buy this shit - his comic and "preaching". Read his comics, he's a relic of the Christian (and probably original) persona.

Unlike this relic, which is equally fucked up, but not as harmful

No, you misunderstand -- I grew up Christian. I went to church a lot and knew a lot of perfectly normal people there. I have never seen these things endorsed before, probably because nobody there was a complete fucking lunatic.

Every time I see this stuff on the internet I am fascinated and a bit mortified.

There used to be a website that had "Anti Chick Tracts" that were actually full of educational information (like where that Christian fish symbol originated, or why Christmas falls on December 25th, etc.) but I can't seem to find it anymore.

I once did a paper on Chick's Islam tracts.
The guy's published three, each with a mutually-exclusive secret origin for Islam.

Is that from the one about Dungeons and Dragons? Or maybe Ouija?

  No.206346   Report

It's not the D&D one. I think it's one of those strips talking about what the world will be like when the Antichrist reigns, with human sacrifice, etc. My guess is that Kamineko wasn't in the original, but he doesn't seem out of place ^_^ Actually, someone should make the possessed girl's hair more like Sakaki's, and it'd be just about perfect.

That guy must be a really sincere racist. It's not just that all Aryans are good-looking in his comics, he portrays all non-Aryans as ugly. I bring it up because even a lot of racist people still may think certain people of other races are hot, even if they disrespect them or consider them inferior.

He portrays white gays and feminists as ugly, too, but that just shows how even off center his is to his own beliefs. Just look up "Arizona protest" on Youtube and see that these people don't have a leg to stand on.
If they're racist, fine, whatever, but they need to take a note from my dad and stfu about it if they don't want to appear like dopes.

I'm at a loss for what's wrong with the guy on the right. Is the artist suggesting we shouldn't cure AIDS? Or is he trying ot make a point about how terrible the disease is by showing how AIDS sufferers are physically destroyed from the inside out?

These racist comics writers should take a hint from Azuma.

Actually now that I think about it, I don't think a white supremacist would want to adopt the styles developed in a foreign country. Quest time children! First person to find a white supremacist propaganda comic with anime styled characters wins a prize.

  No.206374   Report

To be fair, the artist of those comics has since said that he used to think Bill Clinton was a bad president, but learned what a truly bad president is after living under Bush II. He even posted a picture of himself shaking hands with Clinton on his website, whom he met after a speech. Clinton had no idea with whom he was shaking hands.

And I'm not making any of this up.
