Japan has had digital TV before the USA. Heck, Japan had hi-def even back in the days before DVDs existed.

Right, that's why I said all digital.
The date the US stopped broadcasting in analog was originally set to be in February 2009, but then they pushed it back to June 2009. They stuck to the June 2009 date though, and currently broadcast only in digital.
