I've been hanging on to this tribute comic from the Osaka Expo special for a while, but finally got around to translating it.

This animation style reminds me a bit of Hidamari Sketch. The way their heads are kind of oblong, like Tomo in the last page of "Survey Says: No" >>206987 reminds me of the girls from H.S.

Pic related, it's an advertisement for a restaurant in Germany (I think).

I never understood why 'buffet' in Japanese is 'viking'. Where'd that come from?

  No.207023   Report

>>207022
I always imagined it stemmed from the all-you-can-eat mood conjuring up images of burly Norse men plundering and pillaging and stuffing their faces.

According to Wikipedia though:
In Japan, a buffet or smorgasbord is known as a viking (ヴァイキング - vaikingu). It is said that this originated from the restaurant "Imperial Viking" in the Imperial Hotel, Tokyo, which was the first restaurant in Japan to serve buffet-style meals.

Anyway, thanks Ralen. This was a fun read.

People tend to default to the male gender when the actual gender of an individual is unknown.

Here's a preview of what I'm working on now... I got this scan at the same time as the Ume Aoki one, but didn't realize who the artist was until I finally looked at it tonight.

Yomi doesn't seem too bothered either, but I may have taken liberties with her dialogue in the first panel of >>207067.

I'm not that familiar with the word she uses (感心しません) but in the example sentences I looked at, it was frequently translated as "Disapprove." I tried to make her sound less judgemental though since it seemed out of character for her.
