Hullo thar, folks.
I'm just back from a trip to Japan, where I found this little Azumanga fanzine book that looked quite interesting. The art style is very similar to the original, but I'd like to know what they say as well. If any of the board's translators would like to take it on, it'd be greatly appreciated.
I'll post the scanned hi-res pages here. If you'd like a zip with them all instead, let me know.

I guess it's full of pretty obscure references to anime, internet and sports... In the first few strips they talk about some baseball clip on Nico Nico Douga, as I understand it.

Hidamari Sketch looks a bit like Azumanga, though, but I don't know what's it about.

You must vc: des(c)heme it!

Yeah, the baseball references were a little obscure to me, but I got what was going on for the most part (there's apparently a reference to a baseball themed manga called Abare Hayabusa or 'Go Wild, Peregrine Falcon' on pages 006 and 007 (scan #5)).

The main thing was the strip in >>207976, especially the top panel. I'm not sure how well I translated it. It was using a bunch of archaic kanji with modern simplified versions that weren't in my dictionary.
For instance "One Hundred Eleven" would normally be either '111' or '百十一' but here it was written '佰拾壹'.
"Film" was written 動畫 instead of 動画,
and there were several more.

The next page was much easier though.

More research leads me to believe this is a Bakemonogatari reference. I've never seen it, but there are several other references to that series in this doujin, and when I started looking the references up, I noticed a lot of similarities to >>207976. Still not entirely sure what it means though. I may revise it if I figure it out.

Yup, that looks like a reference to the beginning of Ep 1 allright: http://youtube.com/watch?v=XX2_CGxAdyo (from 1:40 on)

I can't place the Hidamari comment since I haven't seen enough of that show, but since both are produced by Shaft maybe they did recycle a sound effect.

Oh, and thanks for the scans, of course.

Thanks for finding the exact reference, I didn't really feel like trying to track it down. I managed to find video references to some of the other Bakemonogatari jokes, but this one didn't give me enough context to even know what episode to look in.

I had revised that page once earlier today (changing 'Calendar' to 'Koyomi' once I found out that was the name of one of the characters), but I didn't realize 踊り場 could mean 'stair landing' as well as 'dance floor'.

Here's an alternate video that preserves the original text with the English subtitled at the bottom.

  No.208018   Report

Just a status update, I'm making progress, but trying to hunt down all these references to make sure I'm translating things correctly is very time consuming.
It's also weird that the titles often seem to have absolutely nothing to do with the strip. Either that, or I'm just missing it.

I just finished the last strip of >>207930 in which Osaka talks about the series "Ninja Hattori-kun" with which I'm not at all familiar.
I was at least following her all the way until the very end when she says 羽美 (Umi?) would throw a fit. I have no idea how that relates to Ninja Hattori-kun though, since she doesn't seem to be one of the characters from that series.
