48137 No.210655     Report

Yard-sale season is in full-swing in my small town. Today I nabbed a baseball bat signed by a man by the name of Phil Bradley. Upon further investigation, I discovered that Mr. Bradley once played for the Tokyo-based Yomiuri Giants.

He also happens to be the assistant coach at a University near me. I will attempt to catch Mr. Bradley during his coaching or something to get his autograph on my copy of the Azu omnibus, since he played once for Chiyo's favorite team.

What does /azu/ think of this plan?

I think it stinks, and you'll just embarrass yourself.

Depends on why you're doing it:

If you think that this might somehow make your omnibus valuable? No. Autographs almost never make a collectible more valuable unless the person is quite high up there on the VIP scale (Mr. Bradley is not), AND you have some means of authenticating the signature to a prospective buyer.

On the other hand if you don't care about "collector value" and you think it's cool and you're doing it for fun? Sure, why not! Go for it!

Not sure he'd want his signature on a large comic book about under-aged girls in skirts that he had nothing to do with, but you can give it a try?

He wouldn't get the joke.

Don't listen to the negative comments. Just do it and see what happens.

No, unique poster here. I would seriously take heed of the negative comments. This is going to be something you regret when you're older.

Think about it, he's never really been directly involved with Azumanga Diaoh.

it would be really weird to sign a copy of something he wasn't involved in.

How dare you contradict the number of the beast?
I say do it, OP. What's the worst that could happen?

  No.210674   Report

Oh no no no!

OP please heed my statement; never debase that is one’s own.
Never go down on self, your makin’ your self a greatfool.
You musn’t encroach this foolhardy scheme.

OP, don't do it.

Not sure if your know this, but there was another manga called Cromartier High or some shit (it's considered the male equivalent of Azu, but I think not - whatever) and that name was taken from a baseball player (he might have played in Japan, too).
Anyway, he didn't like being associated with a "comic book about delinquents" and sued the baby Jesus out of the creators. Not sure if they actually went to court, though.

What I'm trying to say is, think of poor Sakaki's delicious virgin breast!!! ;_;

  No.210677   Report

You can give it a try.

I remember he had a couple of prima donna moments (in Philadelphia and Baltimore, I think) that got him traded. Maybe he's matured since then.

Warren Cromartie was a MLB player for the Montreal Expos for several years, then went on to have a productive career in Japanese baseball from 1984-1990.
