Koiwai really is a kind person. He just puts the kids in a position to have fun and doesn't impose himself. If you think about it, he had no obligation towards any of these girls. Yotsuba isn't any relation to him; who knows how he came to adopt her. Ena and Miura are his neighbor's elementary-age daughter and his neighbor's elementary-age daughter's friend. But because of him and Jumbo, they're able to participate in multivarious excitements--camping, stargazing, cicada-catching, swimming. Unlike Jumbo, Koiwai has absolutely no ulterior motive (Asagi). He's not worried about what he gets out of the deal. He just wants children to enjoy themselves because that's what children should do.

When we're little, we don't really appreciate all the work and initiative other people put forward so we can have memorable experiences. We treat it like it all just spontaneously occurred. We don't care what other people thought or went through. I wonder how old I was the first time I said "thank you" and actually meant it. But for any fun event you participated in, there had to first be an adult who had a selfless idea, with only your amusement in mind, realizing you would feel no gratitude, and other adults, who put in the work to make the event happen. I'm not saying children are morally depraved; it's not their job to feel gratitude, or any deep, subtle emotions.　　Their job is just to have fun (and to screw up, as Koiwai says). But I really admire the people who make it possible for them to do that job. I think in inner-cities and other degraded places there is a lack of that initiative and selfless drive, and the imaginative worlds of the children there suffer.

The really compassionate one is Azuma. He understands children and how their minds work, and has real respect for them. That's why his younger characters are like real people and not little mascots, and it's what makes them so dear and noble.

This topic sure is something. You all should be jealous of our friendly neighborhood eunuchs, strongly decreased sex drive (like those things aren't annoying), no male pattern baldness, and a decade added to expected lifespan.

Also this chapter was entertaining, though short. I'm just somewhat surprised that we pushed "Yotsuba&! a Hammock" to be a 2 chapter event. I guess it's really just split between 2 half chapters on camping. We've covered approximately one hour of a camping trip. At this rate my estimate on when we'll reach next summer has to be extended. It doesn't have to be an egotistical thing. As a scanlator and a manga reader, I find credits pages (or at the very least, a website on the first or last page) to be valuable so that I know who the scanlator is and where I can get the rest of a series's chapters. As for watermarks on every page, the people who usually do that are manga readers who steal scanlations and put ads all over their websites.

I'm glad I was on /azu/ before you started tling Yotsuba, otherwise, I probably wouldn't have found the primary source for Yotsuba scanlations so easily. /azu/'s site on the first page or maybe even something like an [Ralen-Azu]Yotsuba_81c_eng.rar so people can at least google you or be able to put you in mangaupdates.com.

Filename changes actually DO annoy me somewhat, mostly because they make the file hard to find in a full downloads folder sorted by name, I don't want to have to remember that the item was translated by <QMP> (made up, if real, not my problem). Would they put those things AFTER the file name, it wouldn't be an issue, but no one ever does.

Obviously though, translators should do what they feel like, it's their hobby, and if I feel they're being really sleazy about their hobby, I'll just find something else to do/read/whatever.

Honestly though, even if you DID sign your work, this page would still confuse people, they would still just think that his page was your page. If you can't get him to stop being really damned ambiguous, I would probably throw a note at the end of a single chapter explaining the current situation. If he removes it, he's pretty clearly being malicious, and otherwise, it mostly fixes the problem. There have been tons of sites that hosted your translations and didn't make it appear like it was their own. I even used some of them from time to time (RSS feeds are useful, bulk zips often more so).

I mean, after the huge stink last time he did update the 'About' page, and in the last update he said he hadn't even read the chapter yet (kind of hard to take credit as translator if you haven't read what you're uploading) but I do still think the page ambiguously gives the impression that he's part of some scanlation team.

You are right about one thing, having a domain tends to make you way more of a traceable being unless you take pretty specific measures to avoid that. That said, something like a wordpress like he's using would still have you as an IP address in a database. Then again, I don't know if wakachan even stores IP addresses, without knowing much about it's administration, it'd be flipping a coin for a site of this design.

I've done it long ago. Instead of the individual threads, I posted links to the image boards itself to allow for discussion on anything Azu related. Plus, most people know when to expect a new Azu chapter: at the end of each month. Links are on the about page with an explanation AND sidebar. I have also added a credit page on each chapter saying "translated by Ralen" and again, provided a link to the image boards. I didn't' know you wanted credit to the individual threads, but I can do that too in my posts, since there is not much information in them (posts) anyway.

In other news, I purchased the bonus volume of Watashi no Oniichan, as I said I would. My contact in Japan will scan or photograph it as soon as possible. It will probably be this month or the next. The lack of a scanner is delaying it. I will also be giving it away (in a give-away, it comes with a figure after all) after it has been translated. If you can help make a questionnaire or one particular (tricky) question, that would be appreciated. The manga will be uploaded on the secchan 4koma board.

In the proto-Yotsuba (Prototsuba?) series Try! Try! Try! Ena is stated to be in 4th grade, which would make her about 10.
The current Ena looks to be about the same age, so it's assumed she probably is. She and Miura appear to be in the same class since they had the same stargazing assignment for homework, and they also collaborated on Danbo for their recycling project.
Their specific ages or grades haven't ever been officially stated in the current series though. The only characters whose ages we know for sure are Fuuka at 16, and Yotsuba at 5.

New issues of Dengeki Daioh (the magazine Yotsuba&! is published in) come out on the 27th of each month. Sometimes a day before if the 27th is a holiday, (for example, the next issue will be out January 26th, presumably since the 27th is a Sunday).
Yotsuba&! isn't in print every month (even manga artists need to take time off once in a while).
During months when it is in print, scans usually show up on Share within a few days. Sometimes they show up immediately or even a little before the magazine comes out, while other times it can be a week or two.
I usually translate the new chapter the same day it becomes available on Share. If I'm busy though, I may have to wait a day or two until I have more time.
