>Once again Azuma Kiyohiko is listed for the next issue.

Was he listed in the past 3 issues as well? Or was the last time he was listed back in April?

  No.225201   Report

>>225200
The current Daioh is dated Sept 2013. Azuma Kiyohiko was listed on the next issue preview page for the June, July and August volumes too. Barasui was listed in the June & July ones and shows up in this months.

  No.225202   Report

To be clearer, Yotsubato Chapter 83 was in the Dengeki Daioh dated June 2013( came out in April), and has been listed on the next issue preview pages ever since.

  No.225203   Report

>>225202
Wait, would that be the preview pages like this one?
http://daioh.dengeki.com/wp-content/themes/daioh/nextissue/yokoku1309.pdf

Because I had originally thought that was a listing of which authors work would appear in the next issue, but it's been inaccurate so many times, now I'm just wondering if it's a listing of the authors for the magazine in general. Although I don't see Barasui's name listed in the one I just linked.

  No.225204   Report

>>225203
In the past when Azuma Kiyohiko was scheduled to take a month off, say when a Yotsubato volume or calendar was coming out, he wouldn't be listed.
Which just makes these last few months a little more disappointing.
And he has been listed for the next issue and not shown up before, but never for so many months in a row that I can recall.

Well, we know he's still working on it because he just put out a call for new assistants in his twitter feed.

I've never actually seen a copy of the magazine, so I didn't know those preview pages had been in previous issues. The first time I ever saw them was when they redesigned the website and started uploading those as pdfs instead of the old format of just listing the artists and series one week before release (which they don't seem to do anymore).

Anyway, here's this month's IM.
I had thought the series might have ended with volume 7, but now that there's a new issue, that means Barasui has committed himself to like 150 more pages (although that could take another 10 years).

It's interesting that the establishing shot of the house in the first panel is a photograph.
Barasui's used that same establishing shot of the house dozens of times before, but I never realized it was based on an actual location.

Just checked to be sure.
Chapter 82 was in the April issue (came out on Feb. 27th). The little graphic on the last page showed it would be back in the June issue ( due out April 27th).

Also. Thanks for translating again!

Going through these Dengeki Daiohs I just realized that only 3 chapters of Yotsubato (total 73 pages) have come out in the last 9 months. Barasui stunned at Azuma's prolific output!

It looks like there are some extra pages besides >>225210.

Oh, and there's also a page showing the solved crossword from >>225210.

The answers are:
1 Down: "Bullet Train" (shinkansen).
2 Down: "Baltans" (barutan, aliens from Ultraman with giant pincers for hands. The clue should have been "pincers" instead of "scissors").

1 Across: "Eraser" (keshigomu).
2 Across: "Billboard" (kanban).
3 Across: "Laundrya" (sentaku. The clue was hard to translate since it was cut off, but it should have been something like "Makes your clothes astonishingly white.")

The final answer is "Shibata."
Who is Shibata? I have no idea. Maybe this guy?

For Chiro-chan, I disassembled the volumes with a hairdryer to melt the glue. They also say you can use an iron.

The first two volumes went really well, but they changed the type of glue and binding method on the last two volumes, so those didn't debind as cleanly.

I put them all back together once I was done scanning (using an iron to melt the glue on the spine and then jam all the pages back in), but of course you can never get them pages back in quite as neatly and compactly as they were before they came out.

But just something to consider if you ever end up doing more scanning in the future. It just depends on whether you consider it more important to maintain the quality of the original printed product, or to get better scans.

I can't see this being someone who Barasui looks up to.

This tweet is interesting but I don't know what to make of it.

Okay, I originally just glossed the image in >>227433, but there were a few words I couldn't make out. All I caught was "Magazine" and "Before I was a manga artist," so I assumed it was someone Barasui looked up to in his youth. Now that I've spent a little more time on it, I can read it.

It looks like that tweet is implying that Barasui (who is chronically absent from Dengeki Daioh) was redoubling his efforts to actually get his work submitted on time due to his experience with Uni-san's twitter.

3.
"What!? No way, is this...?"

4.
"Uni-san!"
"Uni-san was..."

5.
"...someone who had taken an interest in my art back when I was doing magazine submissions before becoming a manga artist."
"We exchanged letters for a number of years. He was like my number 1 fan."

6.
"I haven't gotten in touch with him in ages though..."
(Man, what are the odds of stumbling across him like this?)
"Hehe, I'm glad he's doing all right!"

7.
"Ohh, list of favorite manga..."
"Huh, I don't see Mashimaro in here..."

Those are all recent titles. The thing I notice on Twitter is that people list what they like either currently airing or recent enough to be in memories of fans. I love AzuDai, but it would seem strange to list it as current favorites, you know?
So, basically, Barasui needs to choke on his own ego and should learn how to Twitter.

  No.227982   Report

I installed Perfect Dark around the same time I got Share, but I had trouble getting the hang of it. Also, it seemed like support for it was kind of drying up (why can't the Japanese just use Bit Torrent?)

I had to start running Share on an XP VM (which took forever) once I upgraded my OS to Windows 8, and I never really bothered trying to use Perfect Dark after that. I don't know if I could get it to run with my current set up.

It is surprising that it's been this long without any scans showing up on Share though. So far nothing from last month's issue has popped up. I'd almost think my connection wasn't working, but I can still see scans from the previous month's issue disappearing and reappearing from time to time. I am worried that support for Share might be waning too. I don't know if I can learn another file sharing program.

  No.227983   Report

>>227982
It was a pain in the ass to install on windows 8 because it can't open its own ports and the starting hashes at the dev blog are really out of date and useless and you cant download anything until you've downloaded a 2 GB cache, which takes ages. I installed it because I heard share was declining in users, but a quick scan at 2ch said otherwise.

I actually am pretty surprised its taking so long to get scans up, since I thought that thing in August where the raws finally turned up in October was going to be a one time thing.

>>227981

Shock indeed.
Poor Matsuri. Now she'll be traumatized because her alien friend is gonna be experimented on.
They'll see how it responds to intense heat, freezing cold, high voltage, toxic substances, pain, sleep deprivation, inoculation (that's needles), and of course dissection.

Nice conclusion to the alien saga.

I think that's how the television show Alf ended.

Well, he wasn't necessarily caught, but he was surrounded.
If you weren't aware of the film that continued from that point, then the TV series ended on one hell of a cliffhanger.

No, see the twitter thread for updates.
When a new Dengeki Daioh comes out, I always post in that thread whether there's a new chapter that month or not.

I received my copy of Dengeki Daio early, here's the Ichigo M. pages. Hopefully better scans show up as I had trouble with these.

Thanks, I've had the raws off Share a couple of days now. Just haven't made the time to translate.
The Share scans didn't come with the color ad though.

Short version: Barasui's going to be at a convention signing autographs.

Plus you can see up Miu's shorts. When's the last time Azuma drew that kind of fan service?

You know, I had a dream last night that I was at some kind of anime convention, and learned that Barasui actually had a lot of creative ideas for other series, but no one would read them because everyone just wanted him to draw lolis.

I don't think that's actually true, but it was an interesting thought.

For a brief period several years ago, I had a Japanese pen pal that I met on a language site, and when I told her I read Ichigo Mashimaro, she informed me that it was an extremely loli manga, but tried very hard not to be judgmental of me.

did this clown rip off another azuma joke with the new years dream? I know it's a tradition in japan, but no other recent series have made an effort to bring that up as of late.

Suzumiya Haruhi-chan had an episode on that. Koizumi was Mt. Fuji, and Tsuruya was a crane standing in for the hawk (it's a pun because Tsuru means "crane").
Nagato was an eggplant cell phone charm on Kyon's phone.

I actually don't mind these joke rip-offs that much though, because Barasui always takes them in a totally different direction.
The Danbo chapter of Yotsuba didn't end with Miura being hauled off by the cops.

Yotsuba would've had a great expression of horror, no doubt.

Like, reruns or something?
I'd be pretty stoked for another season or even more OVAs but I can't imagine there's really enough source material yet, and I don't see any mention of it on the usual airtime charts..

The note said it was a rebroadcast, so I'm assuming that means reruns of the first series.
